As we were getting ready to move out of the old house I finally took some time to take pictures of Ellie's nursery.  I worked REALLY hard on this room and I think it was the only completely "finished" room in the house after living there for 4 years.

Nursery News

Update on the nursery - it's getting closer to being finished every day now! This weekend Casey and I bought this dresser from Ikea and FINALLY got some space to start putting things away. Here are some pictures of the nursery in it's current state:




Left to do this week:

• Hang the paper lantern puffball things I made this summer
• Hang shelving for book wall
• Hang the few pieces of wall art/shelves we have
• Get a slipcover for the ugly/amazingly comfortable chair.

Holy Sheet!

THE CRIB SHEETS I WANT FOR THE NURSERY ARE ON BACKORDER UNTIL NOVEMBER!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Everyone keeps telling me "Don't buy anything until after the shower" and I've been very good at listening, but something told me to go ahead and buy these sheets and I didn't. :(


What is a girl to do??? If anyone knows where I can get this Migi Bananafish Sweet Sunshine Fitted Sheet PLEASE let me know! I will buy it immediately this time and not put it off. PLEEEEAASE! I know this seems a little overdramatic, but you have no idea how difficult picking out baby bedding has been for me. Why are there not more gender neutral non-character bedding sets for babies??

Pom Pom Craft

I am not the craftiest person, but today I tried something out. Tissue paper pom poms for the nursery. These are going over the glider (that we just purchased used on eBay for only $69!) to act as a mobile during nursing sessions. :) I found this craft on Martha Stewart's website and it was SOOOOO easy. It's also a great craft for decorations for a baby/bridal shower or summer party. On her website you can also make napkin rings out of these.

Supplies needed:

• Tissue Paper
• Scissors
• Floral Wire

1. Get 8-10 pieces of rectangular tissue paper and stack them neatly.

2. Begin folding and creasing the tissue paper in an accordion folder (about 1"-1.5" folds) all the way to the end.
3. Cut the ends into a point (or rounded if you want a more structured look)


4. Feel something weird behind you...realize that your dog has been watching over your shoulder creepily and quietly.

5. Wrap a 8"-10" long piece of floral wire around the middle of the strip of tissue paper and twist.
6. Pull around each end to form a circle fan type thing.

7. Very carefully start pulling each layer apart and fluffing them together.

8. Voila! I did 3 more after this and they turned out much better, but this is the general look of the poms.

Week 18

Oops just realized I never posted this one!

Pregnancy Stats:

How Far Along: 18 weeks (and a couple of days)

Size of baby: Baby Page is the size of a sweet potato. Meanwhile my uterus is the size of a cantaloupe - GOO!!!!

Total Weight Gain: 2 lbs

Gender: Hopefully will be our Christmas surprise!

Movement: Oh yeah! Loving the fluttery feelings. I keep telling people it feels like when you take a goldfish out of the fish bowl and it flops around in your hand. Awesome, but kind of creepy too!

Sleep: I've been having AWFUL nightmares... I mean awful. Nothing seriously scary, just always stressful. I wake up stressed and upset about them all night long and every time I go back to sleep it's the same dream, I just pick up where I left off. UGH!! I just want a peaceful night of sleep like old times. I don't even mind getting up to go pee all the time, just want to have better dreams.

What I miss: Beer. Yep.... beer.

Cravings: Chocolate milk (speaking of... haven't had a glass in a few hours...) & Chile Limon Lay's Chips.

Symptoms: Trouble breathing lately, everything feels all squished up in my abdomen and my normal daily hiccups are in overdrive! I'm talking 8-10 times a day.

Maternity Clothes: Just got two new maternity dresses and a cute short sleeve wrap cardi. Love!

Best Moment this week: Finally feeling like I'm expecting a baby. I've felt pregnant the entire time (trust me, I've had like EVERY symptom possible), but just this week with the consistent movement in my belly and finally wanting to nest I feel like a mama. Yay!

Nursery: Phase 1

And the color for the nursery is.......... GREY!

I know what you are thinking. Grey/Gray??? For a nursery?? WHY?!!? Aren't nurseries supposed to be painted pastel colors and have cartoon characters in them? For me... no. I want something chic, functional, and a color on which bright colors will pop. Grey is my favorite "color" so it makes perfect sense to me. (Cue Counting Crows jokes... and yes I do feel so symbolic)

On Saturday we had our wonderful friends over to help paint the nursery and to hang out and BBQ. I am SO thankful that everyone helped us out and it's such a relief to have such a major part of the nursery finished this early. Here are some pictures:

Nursery: Before

Here are some before pictures of what will be Baby P's nursery. Excuse the mess, it's a mixture of teaching stuff, extra comforters, art supplies, and me cleaning a closet out to start organizing.

Nursery Ideas

Right now I am obsessed with having a super cute, stylish, and functional nursery. Since moving into this house 3 years ago, I haven't really taken the time to fully decorate any one room. It's always been decorated "good enough". I am REALLY looking forward to getting started on the nursery. Hopefully we will paint this weekend... that is IF we can find "the perfect nursery grey".

Yes, I said grey and nursery in the same sentence. Grey/Gray has been my favorite color for the past 4 or 5 years (yeah, yeah, kind of like in that Counting Crow's song) and I can't imagine a better "neutral" backdrop for the colorful ideas I have for this nursery. So yes, the walls will be a beautiful medium grey.

As for the other colors, since we are not planning to find out the sex of Baby Page we will be doing a gender neutral nursery in yellows, turquoise/teals, with splashes of orange or pink depending on whether Baby P is a precious baby girl or a bouncing baby boy. Here are some photos of nurseries I love and am drawing inspiration from.

I want yellow bedding similar to this. We'll probably have to have it custom made on Etsy.

LOVE the color scheme in this sweet nursery. I also love the pinwheels and want to incorporate them somehow.
